‘Symphonic Adiemus’ – Sunday 25th November 3:00pm.
The West Gippsland Chorale, Latrobe Chorale and Heidelberg Choral Society and Orchestra are proud to present Karl Jenkins’ major new work, Symphonic Adiemus.
The Australian Premiere of this iconic work for choir and orchestra will be performed by Heidelberg Choral Society on the 18th of November at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
The Gippsland performance of Symphonic Adiemus will include: three choirs, two epic musical works with a fifty piece orchestra and Peter Bandy as guest conductor. It will be an awe-inspiring afternoon of music to be held in the newly refurbished West Gippsland Arts Centre. Symphonic Adiemus combines classical principles with flavours of world and ethnic music, contrasted with the popular Messa di Gloria of Giacomo Puccini.
Symphonic Adiemus, first premiered in London in late 2017, it is a challenging and innovative work, drawing on and extending earlier works which have all been world-wide favourites. Through his use of invented language, unusual rhythms and extensive and rarely-heard percussion Jenkins pushes the boundaries of new music development.
Unashamedly operatic, the young Puccini’s Messa di Gloria reflects the influence of Puccini’s hero, Verdi, and provides a foretaste of his later major works. The joyous themes which run throughout the work complement the exuberant nature of Jenkin’s work, and provide an orchestral contrast which will make this a concert not to be missed.
Soloists for Missa Di Gloria will be Jeremy Kleeman (bass baritone) and Timothy Reynolds (tenor).
